A Disney World vacation is a dream—but let’s be real, it’s also a serious undertaking, especially if you’re traveling with kids. Between figuring out park tickets, deciding where to stay, choosing where to eat, and keeping everyone happy (and fed and not melting down), a solid plan can be the difference between magic and mayhem. Planning your Disney World vacation will make a world of difference.
As a mom of six, I’ve learned that being prepared means more flexibility, fewer surprises, and more joy. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifteenth, here’s your guide to planning a Disney World vacation from start to finish—with tips to make it stress-free and fun.

When you go to Disney matters — a lot.
Our family loves to visit during the off-season, like mid-January, when:
That said, off-season travel doesn’t work for everyone. School breaks and holidays are popular for a reason—they’re when families are most available. And Disney really does extra magic during those seasons (hello, Very Merry Christmas Party and Halloween fun!).
💡 Bottom line? Choose what works best for your family’s schedule and budget. The best time to go is when you can go.

One of the biggest decisions when planning a Disney World vacation is choosing your home base. There are so many options, but here’s a quick breakdown:
➡️ Pro Tip: You can actually save money on Deluxe stays by renting Disney Vacation Club points. It’s one of my favorite Disney budget hacks!

My personal favorite Deluxe Resort? Wilderness Lodge. It’s cozy, peaceful, and just a boat ride away from Magic Kingdom.

Good news: many ticket types no longer require park reservations, especially for date-based tickets. But always double-check before you go.
There are four theme parks at Disney World:
I typically recommend:
You’ll also need to decide whether or not to add the Park Hopper option, which lets you visit more than one park in a single day.

This is where my Disney World Vacation Planner really shines.
Having a daily plan (that isn’t rigid or overwhelming) can help you feel confident heading into each day without overthinking every little thing.
Ask yourself:
Will you be using Multi Pass (Disney’s new version of Genie+)?

I suggest when planning your Disney World Vacation:
Don’t forget to think about meals. Dining at Disney can be a whole experience in itself.

At 60 days out, you can begin booking table service restaurants.
If you’ve got your heart set on character meals like Chef Mickey’s or unique spots like 1900 Park Fare, you’ll want to be ready bright and early on that day.
But here’s the truth: you don’t have to book everything to eat well at Disney.
In fact, my family typically doesn’t do any table service meals during our stay. Many quick-service spots are amazing (and mobile ordering is a life-saver), so don’t feel pressured to fill every slot. You are also able to bring food into the parks! This is another way to save money and ensure your kids actually eat!
Florida weather is wild. One day you’re in a poncho, the next you’re sunburned.

Planning a Disney World vacation can feel like a full-time job, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
That’s why I created the Disney World Vacation Planner—a printable, practical, mom-tested tool to help families stay on track and stress-free.
In my customizable Disney World Planner, you’ll get:
Disney World is magical—but it’s also real life. Your toddler might cry during fireworks. You might miss a ride. The weather might not cooperate.
But when you go in with a plan and a flexible mindset, you’ll be able to soak up the best moments—the spontaneous dance parties, the hugs from Goofy, the giggles on Dumbo.
And those are the memories that matter most.
