Planning a trip to Disney World in the summer with kids? As a mom of six, I understand the challenges and joys of navigating the magic of Disney with kids of any age. Summer in Disney World can be hot and hectic, but with the right items in your bag, you can ensure everyone stays cool, hydrated, and happy. Here’s my list of must-have items to survive the heat and make the most of your magical Disney vacation.
One of the best investments for summer in Disney World is a set of cooling towels. These are lifesavers for keeping everyone cool in the sweltering Florida heat. Simply wet them, wring them out, and drape them around your neck. They provide instant relief and are perfect for those midday parades or waiting in line for rides. A big reason my family loved these were that you didn’t have to hold onto them like a fan.
Hydration is crucial when spending a summer day at Disney World. Bring a stainless steel water bottle filled with ice-cold water and pack some Liquid IV packets for extra hydration. These packets not only help keep you and your kids hydrated but also replenish essential electrolytes lost through sweat.
Sure you can get free water around the parks (and definitely take advantage of that to refill), but having your own water bottle means your water stays cool. Is there anything less refreshing than warm water? I don’t think so.
Our favorite water bottles are the Simple Modern ones because they have cute characters, perfect for summer in Disney World.
Stroller clips are a game-changer for keeping your belongings organized and easily accessible. Use them to hang bags, water bottles, or even cooling towels on your stroller. They make it easy to grab what you need without rummaging through your bags.

A sturdy travel tote is essential for carrying extra things, including souvenirs and snacks. A tote bag is also handy for holding ponchos, sunscreen, and other essentials you’ll need throughout the day. I love a tote with a zipper to keep things from falling out when it’s tossed underneath the stroller. I also love one that is okay if it gets wet. My favorite totes are from RadRev.
Bring extra clothes for the kids. With splash pads and messy treats all around the park, you’ll be grateful to have dry, clean clothes on hand. Trust me, a quick change can save the day and keep everyone comfortable and happy during the summer in Disney World.
A stroller fan is perfect for keeping your little ones cool during naps. Attach it to the stroller and enjoy a breeze on the go. It’s also great for cooling off while waiting in lines or watching shows.
Leave the cute shoes at home and opt for comfortable walking shoes. You’ll be covering a lot of ground, and blisters can ruin the magic quickly. Invest in a good pair of shoes to keep everyone’s feet happy and blister-free during summer in Disney World.
A soft cooler bag with ice packs is a must for keeping snacks fresh and drinks cold. It’s a great way to save money and keep the kids happy with their favorite snacks. Plus, it helps avoid the high prices of park snacks and meals.
We love the RadRev Cooler bag as it packs flat, but is a great size for a day in the Disney parks.
Summer in Disney World means afternoon showers. Pack rain gear or ponchos for the whole family to stay dry and continue enjoying the park. They are lightweight and easy to carry, making them a must-have. Of course, they sell ponchos in the park. However, they will cost you a pretty penny. Trust me, I’ve had to buy one for my son during our trip! I wish I had my rain gear that day!
A portable charger is essential for any Disney trip, but especially in the summer. You’ll be taking lots of photos, videos, and using the My Disney Experience app frequently. Keep your devices charged to capture every magical moment of summer in Disney World.
My favorite portable charger is an “all-inclusive” charger. Meaning it has all the cords tucked into it. I love that I don’t have to worry about carrying extra cords.
Don’t forget the sunscreen! Reapply throughout the day to protect everyone from the harsh Florida sun. A sunburn can quickly put a damper on your Disney summer fun, so keep everyone protected. We love to use the spray type (to not have it all over our hands), or this sunscreen applicator that you fill with your favorite brand of sunscreen.
Taking a break in the air-conditioned restaurants is a great way to cool off. Bring a small activity bag with coloring pages, crayons, or small toys to keep the kids entertained while you relax and recharge.
Hand sanitizer is a must year-round, but especially at Disney. Kids love to touch everything, and handrails in queues can be a breeding ground for germs. Keep hand sanitizer handy to avoid bringing home any unwanted bugs.
With these essentials in your bag, you’re ready to tackle summer in Disney World like a pro. Enjoy your magical vacation and make the most of every moment with your family!
