When planning a trip to Disney World, choosing the best time of year to visit can make a significant difference in your experience. Here’s a breakdown to help you decide:

Best Time of Year to Visit Disney World: School Breaks vs. Off-Peak Times

If you can only visit during school breaks, don’t worry. While these times are busier, Disney World is magical no matter what time of year you go. Crowds might be larger, but with a bit of planning and the right mindset, you’ll still have an unforgettable time. Embrace the excitement and energy that comes with peak seasons.

On the other hand, if your schedule allows, consider taking your kids out of school to visit during off-peak times. The parks are less crowded, which means shorter wait times for attractions and a more relaxed pace overall. I’ve done this with my own kids, and it’s been worth it every time. Just be sure to plan ahead with teachers and schoolwork.

Weather Considerations

Florida’s weather can be a significant factor in planning your trip:

• Summer (June to August): Summer is the rainy season in Florida, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. It’s also the hottest time of the year, so be prepared for high temperatures and humidity. However, summer is also a time when many families visit due to school vacations.
• Fall (September to November): This season brings milder weather and fewer crowds, especially after Labor Day. It’s also hurricane season, so keep an eye on weather forecasts.
• Winter (December to February): Winter offers cooler temperatures, which can be a pleasant relief from the summer heat. The holiday season is incredibly busy, but the decorations and special events make it a magical time to visit.
• Spring (March to May): Spring provides warm, pleasant weather and moderate crowds. This season is also home to the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival.

Best Time of Year to Visit Disney World Considering EPCOT’s Festivals and Holiday Parties

Disney World hosts several special events throughout the year that can enhance your visit. If you’re still unsure when the best time to visit Disney World is, consider going during one of EPCOTs festivals.

EPCOT is known for its fantastic festivals, including:

• EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival (spring): Beautiful topiaries, garden displays, and outdoor kitchens. This is one of my favorites as the character topiaries are SO magical. Plus, the food is very vegan friendly as it’s “garden focused.” You can see a peek at my day in this YouTube video.
• EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival (fall): Delicious global cuisine, beverage tastings, and culinary events.
• EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays (winter): Holiday traditions from around the world, special entertainment, and festive foods.
• EPCOT International Festival of the Arts (early winter): Celebrating visual, culinary, and performing arts. This festival is on my bucket list. Probably the shortest of the festivals, but the brilliant colors and focus on art, make this a fan favorite.

Magic Kingdom Holiday Parties

Additionally, Disney World hosts special holiday parties such as Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom. These events feature unique entertainment, parades, fireworks, and character meet-and-greets that you won’t experience during regular park hours. These events do require additional tickets which are pricey. However, if you love Halloween or Christmas, this might be the best time of year to visit Disney World for your family!
